Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has sparked discussions about the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by sharing his predictions for the coveted Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners.
In an interview with Esports streamer Gulrez Khan, Chahal made surprising choices for the players he believes will excel in the upcoming tournament.
“I will score the most runs,” said Chahal jokingly. When asked about the Orange Cap winner, he turned serious and revealed his choice.
Contrary to expectations, Chahal excluded renowned batters like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Faf Du Plessis and David Warner from his prediction for the Orange Cap winner.
Instead, he named Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler as his top picks for clinching the prestigious title. Chahal confidently stated that one of these two players will emerge as the highest run-scorer in IPL 2024. While Buttler secured the Orange Cap in IPL 2022 with an impressive tally of 863 runs, Jaiswal showcased his potential in IPL 2023, accumulating 625 runs with remarkable consistency.
“Orange cap will go to [Yashasvi] Jaiswal or Jos Buttler,” said Chahal.
Moving further, Chahal also predicted himself as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, setting high expectations for his performance. He confidently declared that he would secure the Purple Cap, symbolizing the title of the tournament’s top bowler. Additionally, Chahal named Rashid Khan as the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024, emphasizing the Afghan spinner’s formidable bowling prowess.
“I will take the most wickets. Second, Rashid Khan,” added Chahal.
Last year, Chahal picked 21 wickets in 14 games, while Rashid claimed 27 scalps in 17 matches for Gujarat Titans (GT).
With Chahal’s bold predictions adding intrigue to the IPL 2024 narrative, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing whether his forecasts align with the actual outcomes once the tournament commences on March 22.
