Despite the loss, Ambrose’s visit to the USA dressing room left a lasting impact on the players, who have emerged as surprise contenders in the tournament.

Spirited performance against South Africa

In a high-octane encounter in Antigua, South Africa set a formidable total of 194/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The USA team, known for their resilience throughout the tournament, mounted a strong challenge led by Andries Gous‘ impressive 80 runs. Ultimately, they fell short by 18 runs in their chase, but not without showcasing their fighting spirit till the last ball.

Curtly Ambrose’s words of wisdom

After the match, Ambrose was invited to speak to the USA team in their change room, where he commended their exceptional performance against a strong South African side. He reassured the players that there was no shame in their defeat and encouraged them to build on their positive aspects from the match.

“Good afternoon everybody. I make it quick. You guys played a great game today. Even though you lost, you played a great game. You can build on this for the other games. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing to be embarrassed. You played a damn good game against a good team. And you can build on this going forward for the other games,” said Ambrose in a video shared by ICC.

“I just want to wish you guys all the very best and you can do better. And you will do better. Just continue to believe in yourselves and don’t be intimidated by the team you play against. Always believe in yourself. Individually and as a team. You will get the result in the end. And ofcourse, enjoy what you do. It’s very important to do that.
