2023/24 was not meant to be a season of prosperity for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

Having underperformed considerably last time out and failing to qualify for the Champions League, a year of transition was believed to be required before Liverpool could compete for the most lucrative honours again.

However, Klopp has laughed in the face of the Reds’ rebuild and thrust the Merseysiders back into contention right away. While a resurgent Manchester City will have Liverpool on their toes during the second half of the season, the 2019/20 Premier League champions are poised to compete on multiple fronts up until the campaign’s conclusion.

The start of 2024 has long been earmarked as a critical juncture in Liverpool’s season. The postponement of AFCON and subsequent rescheduling means the Reds could be without superstar wide man Mohamed Salah until mid-February. They’ve coped admirably in his absence thus far, but a handful of games remain in his absence.

The emerging counter-pressing monster Wataru Endo is also away on international duty, although the midfielder is currently with Japan at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Here’s how you can watch both Salah and Endo in action at their respective major international tournaments.

Egypt are the most successful country in AFCON history, and the presence of Salah in their front line gives them a great shot of winning their eighth title in the Ivory Coast.

The Liverpool superstar grabbed a late equaliser on Matchday 1 as Egypt avoided a shock defeat to Mozambique, instead earning a point following a 2-2 draw.

Their upcoming group fixture with Ghana will be broadcasted live on BBC Three as well as Sky Sports in the UK. All of Egypt’s AFCON games are available on Sky Sports, while beIN Sports and Fanatiz are broadcasting the tournament in the US and Canada.

Japan are the favourites to win the 2023 Asian Cup, and their campaign got off to a winning start against Vietnam. Endo played the entirety of his country’s 4-2 victory.

The Liverpool midfielder is set to feature throughout Japan’s campaign as they go in search of their record-extending fifth title.

Unfortunately, local Reds supporters won’t be able to catch Japan’s games live as they’re are no broadcasters of the tournament in the UK. However, Asian Cup matches will be streamed in the US via the subscription service Paramount+.
