Pep Guardiola's camp reveal decision on Bayern Munich return

Pep Guardiola’s camp reveal decision on Bayern Munich return

Pep Guardiola’s camp have confirmed he is not interested in a return to Bayern Munich this summer.

Bayern are continuing their search for a head coach to replace Thomas Tuchel, who is set to depart at the end of the season after missing out on the Bundesliga title, sitting second behind new champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Their new manager, however, will not be Manchester City’s Guardiola, with the Spanish boss keen to continue his success in the Premier League.

Guardioa’s agency, Tacticgrup, have outlined his intentions to stay at City and at least see out the final year of his current contract.

They told Sky in Germany: “Pep has Bayern in his heart, but he doesn’t want to leave City this summer. He is very happy and has a contract until 2025. Returning to Bayern is not an option.”

Guardiola joined Bayern as manager in July 2013, replacing Jupp Heynckes after taking a one-year sabbatical following his exit from Barcelona. He led the Bundesliga side until June 2016, upon which he joined City.

The Spanish boss led Bayern through 161 matches, recording 124 victories and a career-high win percentage of 75.16%. However, his time at Bayern is not always remembered for glory.

Guardiola won three Bundesligas, two German Cups the UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Bayern, but he did not see success in the Champions League.

His failure to achieve European success has in-part ignited rumours of a return to Bayern. After winning the Champions League with City last season, Bayern remain the only club he has not achieved continental glory with.

Bayern have struggled to secure a successor for Tuchel, having been already rejected by Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.
