The ICC has announced the Team of the Tournament for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, featuring standout performers from seven different teams.

Players from champions New Zealand and runners-up South Africa dominate the lineup, with three players from each team (including the 12th player). Stars from Australia, England, India, Bangladesh and the West Indies also earned their spots in the prestigious selection.

Laura Wolvaardt named captain of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Team of the Tournament

Laura Wolvaardt, who led South Africa to the final of the showpiece event, has been named captain of the Team of the Tournament. Wolvaardt had a stellar tournament with the bat and proved to be a formidable leader for the Proteas women.

South Africa’s Tazmin Brits also finds herself in the team after her impressive batting performances throughout the competition, playing a key role in South Africa’s journey to the final. The Proteas even have a representation in form of left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba.

England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who consistently provided explosive starts at the top of the order, was a standout for her team. Her aggressive approach in the powerplay proved vital for England in several matches.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also secured her place in the squad. Known for her powerful hitting, Kaur once again demonstrated her batting brilliance in the ICC event. She was joined by Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana, who excelled behind the stumps and made crucial contributions with the bat.

West Indies veteran Deandra Dottin added power to the middle-order with her aggressive batting, while Afy Fletcher, also from the West Indies, was one of the most economical bowlers in the tournament, picking up key wickets with her clever variations.

New Zealand’s Rosemary Mair and Australia’s Megan Schutt round off the bowling attack, with both players delivering consistently, especially in high-pressure situations. Mair’s ability to swing the ball and Schutt’s precision with her yorkers made them indispensable assets to their teams. Mair’s teammate and right-arm off-spinner Eden Carson was picked as the 12th player in the team.
