The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final is set to take place on May 26, featuring a thrilling showdown between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). As fans eagerly await the culmination of this season’s cricket extravaganza, an unexpected twist has added to the excitement: Grammy-winner rapper Drake has publicly revealed his pick for the match. Known for his keen interest in sports, Drake’s choice has generated buzz and intrigue among cricket enthusiasts and his global fanbase alike.
Drake has wagered a sum of USD 250,000 on the Knight Riders emerging victorious in the IPL 2024 championship clash against SRH. Renowned for his penchant for high-stakes gambling across a spectrum of sports such as basketball, American football, and rugby, this indeed signifies Drake’s maiden foray into cricket betting. The 37-year-old hip-hop artist shared a snapshot of his betting slip via his verified Instagram account, amplifying the anticipation surrounding the IPL 2024 showdown.
As per Drake’s Instagram update, he’s throwing his support behind KKR due to the absence of the team supported by Sureshkumar Subramaniam in the IPL 2024 final. Sureshkumar, however, remains somewhat mysterious, although certain media speculations hint at his role as Drake’s manager. Online communities posit that Sureshkumar, and thus Drake, previously backed the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
“Since @ovorajuju (Sureshkumar Subramaniam) team is out I am going with KKR for my first ever cricket bet (laughing with tears emoji) korbo lorbo jitbo,” read the text on Drake’s story with a screenshot of his bet on ‘Stake’.
Interestingly, this marks Drake’s debut cricket bet, despite his active presence on the Stake platform, where he engages in betting on diverse sports matches. Recent months have seen varied outcomes for his bets on different sports.
Notably, in the IPL 2024, KKR maintain a notable advantage over SRH, having secured victories in both of their group stage encounters, followed by an additional triumph by 8 wickets in Qualifier 2.
