After captaincy disappointments from Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in midweek, FPL managers are starting to sway away from the premium players with the armband.
There’s hope for a better points return in Gameweek 16 with, with Liverpool visiting Crystal Palace in the early kick-off and Manchester City away at Luton Town, but performances won’t be helped by the compressed schedule.
In conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top captain picks and their predicted points for FPL Gameweek 16.
Manchester City have suffered a major dip in form, having failed to win any of their last four league games. However, Erling Haaland’s returns are still right up there with three goals and three assists during this time. A trip to Luton looks appealing, with three goals in two games against promoted sides to date.
The Norwegian also has the form away from home with six goals and three assists. Luton are without a clean sheet so far this season, but big clubs have struggled on their small pitch, even if Arsenal did put four past them in midweek.
Tottenham have yet another home game in their schedule as Newcastle visit on Sunday in what should be a lively fixture. Spurs have scored in every game this season and I expect goals against this Magpies defence, who have the most clean sheets this term.
Son continues to play out of position as Spurs’ main striker and Newcastle’s defensive injuries should help Son and his attackers, with Nick Pope now out for several months with a shoulder problem.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah produced his third blank of the season in midweek but his early substitution against Sheffield United brings hopes of increased minutes for the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend, a side he’s delivered seven goals and six assists against in 12 games.
Salah remains the best scoring fantasy asset in the game with 16 goal involvements, including ten goals. He has four attacking returns in the last four gameweeks alone and has penalties in his locker too, converting from the spot on three occasions.
