The countdown to cricket’s biggest extravaganza has officially begun! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will kick off in March, promising yet another thrilling chapter in the league’s illustrious history.
Notably, the BCCI has officially announced that the upcoming season of IPL will commence on March 23, with the final scheduled for May 25. Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice President, made the announcement during a press conference following a Special General Meeting held in Mumbai.
Eden Gardens, the iconic home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been selected to host both the tournament opener and the final. This aligns with the tradition of the defending champions’ home venue staging key matches. KKR clinched the IPL 2024 title, earning their home ground the honor for the upcoming season.
Ahead of the mega auction in November, the IPL Governing Council had taken a groundbreaking step by sharing the tournament windows for the next three seasons (2025-2027) with all franchises. The 2025 season has been allotted a window from March 15 to May 25.
To accommodate the international schedule, particularly the ICC Champions Trophy final slated for March 9, the IPL has ensured a two-week buffer before the league kicks off. The finalized start date of March 23 allows teams and players adequate preparation time after the global tournament.
The detailed IPL 2025 schedule is expected to be released later this month, offering clarity on match venues and timings.
The 2025 IPL season will feature 74 matches, maintaining consistency with the format followed over the last three editions. Fans can expect the same level of excitement and competitive cricket that has become synonymous with the league.
