BCCI announces Gautam Gambhir as new India head coach



In a major announcement, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian national cricket team. This significant decision comes as the team prepares for a series of crucial international fixtures.

Notably, Gambhir will replace his former teammate Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended with India’s T20 World Cup triumph on June 29. Gambhir’s contract period would last until December 31, 2027.

Gautam Gambhir, a seasoned cricketer known for his pivotal role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 Cricket World Cup victories, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the coaching role. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to inject new energy and vision into the team.

The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey,” he added.

The cricket fans welcomed Gambhir’s appointment with enthusiasm.  Cricket experts and analysts have also praised the decision, highlighting Gambhir’s tactical expertise and passion for the game. “Gautam has always been a fierce competitor and a strategic thinker. His approach to the game is exactly what the team needs at this juncture,” stated former cricketer Saba Karim, while commentating for the third T20I between India Women and South African Women in Chennai.

Gambhir’s tenure as head coach will begin immediately, with his first major assignment being the white-ball series against the hosts Sri Lanka.
