A dramatic incident unfolded during the T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match between India and Bangladesh at the Nassau County Cricket Ground in New York on Saturday. A security breach occurred when a fan bypassed security measures and rushed onto the field to meet the Indian capatain, Rohit Sharma.
The overzealous fan managed to reach Rohit before security personnel intervened. Video footage circulating on social media shows the fan giving the Indian skipper a hug. Security personnel and USA police officers quickly apprehended the fan and escorted him off the field.
Rohit, known for his calmness and leadership, played a part in de-escalating the situation. He even requested the security personnel to handle the situation gently.

The incident caused a brief pause in the match, but play resumed quickly without further disruption. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and local authorities are likely to investigate the security lapse to ensure such breaches don’t occur in the future.
Talking about the match, India emerged victorious by 60 runs. Batting first, Rishabh Pant laid the foundation of India’s strong total. He smashed 53 runs off just 32 runs (4 fours and 4 sixes) before being declared retired out. Hardik Pandya (40 not out off 23) and Suryakumar Yadav (31 off 18) also impressed in the only warm-up game for India.
Among the bowlers, Arshdeep Singh (3-0-12-2) and Shivam Dube (3-0-13-2) grabbed multiple wickets, while Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah claimed one scalp apiece.
For Bangladesh, Mahmudullah (40 retired hurt) was the only player to cross the 30-run mark.
