Fresh off guiding his team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to a dominant victory in the IPL 2024 final, the Aussie pace maestro Mitchell Starc was quick to credit his wife, Alyssa Healy, for his recent success.
“Everything’s been better since Alyssa has turned up,” Starc declared, basking in the post-match glow. Notably, Healy, the Australian women’s cricket captain and wicket-keeper batter, arrived in India during the later stages of the IPL 2024 season.
Starc was the undisputed star of the KKR bowling attack. His opening spell sent shivers down the spines of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batters. The left-armer started with a dream first over, consistently beating the bat or finding the edge of Abhishek Sharma‘s willow. The dismissal of Sharma in the fifth ball, with the white leather starting on middle and leg before deceiving him with its movement, was a pivotal moment. It echoed Starc’s heroics in the first Qualifier, where he dismissed Travis Head for a golden duck.
Starc continued to torment the SRH batters, picking up another wicket in his third over through a leading edge from Rahul Tripathi. Combined with Vaibhav Arora dismissing Head for a golden duck, KKR had ripped the heart out of the SRH batting line-up at 21/3 in 4.2 overs. This dream start laid the foundation for a comprehensive KKR victory.
With the bowling attack dismantling the SRH batting line-up, the KKR batsmen continued the dominance. They chased down the paltry target with remarkable ease, securing their third IPL title with 8 wickets and 57 balls to spare. Venkatesh Iyer‘s unbeaten 52 was the highlight of the chase, further showcasing KKR’s absolute supremacy in the final.
