Bayern Munich complete permanent signing of Eric Dier from Tottenham

Bayern Munich have announced Eric Dier will join the club on a permanent transfer from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season.

Dier joined Bayern on an initial six-month loan during the January window and the reigning German champions have now exercised a clause to make this move permanent.

A statement on Saturday morning read: “FC Bayern and its defender Eric Dier (30) are expanding their cooperation. The 49-time England international’s contract has been extended by one season until June 30, 2025 due to a mutually agreed clause. Dier moved to the German record champions on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January.”

Dier told club channels: “I am very happy in Munich. Now my future is settled and I can concentrate solely on my performance and how I can help the club. We want to win games and titles again, even if it’s a difficult phase for us at the moment.”

Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl added: “Eric Dier’s contract has been extended by one year due to commitments. He is a valuable support in our defence with his whole personality.”

News of Bayern’s purchase officially brings an end to Dier’s ten-year association with Tottenham having first joined them in 2014 from Sporting CP.

He went on to make 365 appearances for Spurs and was notably part of the side that reached the club’s first-ever Champions League final in 2019, coming off the bench for the last 16 minutes of their 2-0 loss to Liverpool in Madrid. However, he lost his place in the side following Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as head coach and played only four times for Tottenham prior to his January move.

Dier has already featured in seven Bundesliga games for Bayern, but their hopes of retaining the title are going up in smoke – they could be ten points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen by the end of the weekend.
