In the much-awaited encounter between India Women and Australia Women at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, the third T20I of the Australia Women tour of India 2023-24 unfolded with great excitement. The Aussies showed their dominance and defeated the hosts by 7 wickets to capture the series.
Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Australia Women displayed a disciplined bowling performance to restrict India Women to a total of 147/6 in their 20 overs. Richa Ghosh was the top scorer for India Women with a blistering knock of 34 runs off 28 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana also made valuable contributions with scores of 26 and 29 runs, respectively.
Australia Women’s bowling attack was led by Annabel Sutherland, who claimed two crucial wickets by conceding only 12 runs in her 4 overs. Megan Schutt, Ashleigh Gardner, and Georgia Wareham also chipped in with wickets, keeping the pressure on the Indian batters.
In pursuit of the target, Australia Women delivered a dominant batting performance, reaching 149/3 in just 18.4 overs. Alyssa Healy played a scintillating innings, scoring 55 runs off 38 balls, while Beth Mooney provided solid support with a well-crafted 52 runs off 45 balls. The Australian chase was efficiently executed, and contributions from Tahlia McGrath and Phoebe Litchfield ensured a comfortable victory.
Pooja Vastrakar was the standout bowler for India Women, claiming 2 wickets for 26 runs in her 3.4 overs. However, it wasn’t enough to prevent Australia Women from securing a convincing seven-wicket win.
