Premier League fixtures today - your guide to Saturday's games

Premier League fixtures today – your guide to Saturday’s games

After the final midweek of European fixtures until next February, the Premier League returns this weekend.

Nottingham Forest took on Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night, but the bulk of the top-flight entertainment comes on Saturday afternoon. With no early kick-off, there are just five matches for supporters to enjoy.

Champions Manchester City are in action as they look to keep pace with Liverpool at the summit of the table, while recent underperformers Chelsea and Newcastle United are also looking to bounce back from disappointing results.

Here is your guide to Saturday’s Premier League fixtures.

Following their sensational humiliation of Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, Bournemouth are aiming to make it five Premier League victories from six matches when they welcome newly-promoted Luton to the south coast.

Andoni Iraola’s side have well and truly turned a corner, picking up seven points from recent games with Newcastle, Aston Villa and Man Utd.

Luton, who travel to the Vitality Stadium off the back of narrow defeats to Man City and Arsenal, will want to put a run of three straight losses to an end. Rob Edwards’ men have shown glimpses of their quality, but still face an uphill battle to stay in the division.

While you would assume that a home fixture for Chelsea against bottom of the table Sheffield United would be a banker, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Blues slip up again this Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have lost back-to-back games with Everton and Man Utd on the road, as well as being beaten by Forest and Brentford at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.

Chris Wilder’s re-appointment at Bramall Lane has helped shift the narrative slightly for Sheffield United, the Blades winning their second game of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Brentford last weekend. There are probably few teams that the Yorkshire club would rather face right now than down on their luck Chelsea.

Having gone on a four-game winless run domestically, Man City got back to winning ways against Luton last time out. It wasn’t entirely convincing, with Erling Haaland also missing for the champions, but they got the job done – as they likely will this weekend against Crystal Palace.

Roy Hodgson was furious with the officiating during his side’s unfortunate home defeat to Liverpool a week ago, with the Eagles now 15th and in the midst of a tricky run of games. While they do boast a surprisingly good record at the Etihad in recent times, Palace will still be big underdogs this weekend.

Having been dumped out of Europe midweek, Newcastle may be licking their wounds this Saturday. A raft of injuries to key personnel hasn’t helped the Magpies, who have lost three games in a row, but at least they can now focus entirely on breaking back into the top four this season.

However, one side Eddie Howe would not want to face right now is Fulham. The Cottagers have scored 16 goals in their last four matches and produced back-to-back 5-0 victories over Forest and West Ham. There are few more form teams in the Premier League than Marco Silva’s men.

Sean Dyche will return to face his old employers Burnley this weekend, bringing with him an Everton side in fantastic form. Since their ten-point deduction, the Toffees have become an unstoppable force and won their last three games, most recently defeating Newcastle and Chelsea.

By their own admittedly low standards, Burnley also find themselves in decent shape. A draw away at Brighton last time out means they have now taken four points from their last three fixtures. A victory this weekend is vital for the Clarets, who will find themselves eight points off Everton if they lose at Turf Moor.
