FC Cincinnati re-sign Yuya Kubo to two-year contract


FC Cincinnati have re-signed midfielder Yuya Kubo to a two-year contract, extending his stay at TQL Stadium through the 2025 MLS season.

The deal for the 29-year-old also contains an option for the 2026 campaign. He originally joined the Orange and Blue ahead of their second season in the league in 2020, and has amassed over 110 appearances across all competitions while adding six goals in the process.

“We’re excited to have Yuya back with FC Cincinnati,” said 2023 MLS Sporting Director & Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright. “Yuya’s ability on the ball, ground coverage, and positional versatility make him an integral part of our group. He’s also a player of high character and a great teammate, and we’re thrilled that he’ll be with us this coming season and beyond.”

Kubo made 25 appearances for Cincinnati in 2023, starting just 10 games as he dealt with a knee problem as well as a muscle injury that kept him sidelined for a total of 10 contests. He helped Cincinnati capture the 2023 Supporters’ Shield crown while also featuring in four playoff games for the Eastern Conference team.

The Yamaguchi, Japan native picked up a wealth of European experience before making the switch to MLS, suiting up for Young Boys in Switzerland, 1.FC Nurnberg in Germany and Gent in Belgium.

Kubo’s career started in Japan with Kyoto Sanga FC, where he had 20 goals in 66 appearances in his home country. He has represented Japan on on the international stage 13 times, scoring twice.
